One of the mainstays of the great early Ray Riddick powerhouses, George was a sophomore starter at end on Lowell’s first Eastern Massachusetts State Class A Championship football team in 1949. George was a consensus All-Scholastic selection at end in both his junior and senior years. He achieved first team scholastic coaches high school All-American honors during his senior year, 1951.
As a baseball player, George was a standout catcher for Coach Stan Stoklosa. He received national notoriety in “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” by hitting two home runs and driving in seven runs–all in one inning– in a game against Medford High School.
After graduation from Lowell High School, George matriculated at Boston University. He continued his grid exploits for Coach Buff Donelli’s Terriers, playing three years of varsity football. As Boston University’s football Captain in 1956, George played both offense and defense, averaging 54 minutes per game.
Today George remains a highly visible local figure, an outstanding businessman and civic leader whose contributions to the Greater Lowell community have earned respect statewide.
